Hoaxing Yourself

Hoaxing Yourself

Description: In this podcast Ira Glass interviews two different people about how they started to lie to themselves so much that it turned into a reality for them. One of the men who was Sean Cole; faked his accent to be British when he went to school. Cole would spend hours watching films that involved people with British accents and try and imitate them in order to sound as though he was from there. During the interview we found out that he created a whole backstory in order to make his accent seem more real to him and to his peers.

Back to the Basics!

Vary the Loudness: Throughout this podcast the volume seem to stay the same pitch and it didn't get too soft or too loud. It had a good frequency that stayed consistent in the podcast. The volume was perfect because you were able to depict what the speakers were saying without having any confusion.

Richer Sound: In order to create a richer sound, the podcast added background music. Overall the background was good because it helped the listener know when they were transitioning. This was a good thing that they added but at some points of the podcast, the sound became too loud and the speakers were still talking. At one point of the podcast the music was added in too early and the listener could barely hear what the speaker had to say.

Editing Pitfalls: The only major editing pitfall that was in the podcast was how they transitioned the music and fading it in and out. That was mentioned above and categorized under "Richer Sound." I did think that while they were editing they could have taken out Glass's moments when he couldn't remember a question that he was going to ask so there was a long and awkward pause before he could remember it.

Minimize Noise: The podcast did a great job minimizing excess noise that might have been in the background. The audience was not able to hear anything else besides the speakers and the background music.
